Meet Me Here

Someone once outlined for me how to pray. It was an easy acronym to remember: Praise, Repent, Ask, Your will (submitting to His will instead of our own, even after petitioning for what we want). And sometimes this helps, to remember that prayer isn’t all about my requests and desires, but also about praising and thanking the One who is making all things possible for me.

But sometimes prayer doesn’t fit into that neat outline. Sometimes prayer is just an honest admission of the state of our hearts. Sometimes that means admitting the ugly truth of our mistrust and unfaithfulness, and asking our Father to find us there, meet us there, and cover those places with grace.

Finding Community

Since I was born I have lived in 6 different states (and two different times in two of those states). Growing up in a Christian home meant finding a new church every time we moved. I don’t remember “church shopping” for the first decade of my life, but ever since we moved to Colorado I have vivid memories the experience. So now from CO – NM – TN, I have picked up on a few things to consider when you find yourself in a new city and searching for a new church community:

Falling in Love with the South

It’s been a long time since I have visited a new state in the United States. Often times my travel is limited to places I have already been – namely, Denver or Las Vegas or Arizona – and I am grateful for it regardless. But this week was special and I was so excited to see a new part of the country. Tennessee (and most of what I saw of the south on the flight from Houston to Memphis) is flat, very green, and the water is brown. I actually did a double take to make sure I was indeed staring at the Mississippi River and not plots of land.

Small Town Escapes

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset

We took off from the Moriarty Municipal Airport late in the afternoon. The plane sat four people and you needed to wear noise cancelling headphones to avoid going deaf from the sound of the propellors in the front.

And as we flew over eastern New Mexico I watched the sky change from blue to purple, with the blinding sunset falling into the Sandias behind us. And I thought, how cool, that we get to fly away from the setting sun and into the evening that has already begun in Clovis.

MORE Grace

I love the word grace. I love the idea of grace. I have it tattooed across my ribs in a spiral, cursive font. I write it over and over again my my devotions each morning. I am forever grateful for it.

I am not very good and putting it into practice.

Because along with grace I also love justice. I love being right. I am more stubborn about winning than showing grace. (Wow that was hard to write).

During the past week God revealed so much to me about worship. I finished Job in my year long Bible plan (which was a challenge to say the least), sat in regular church services, and listened to Chad Veach and John Gray at our church’s conference. The undertone for me was worship.

In an effort to collect my thoughts and remember the words that stood out to me the most from these past few days I’m posting thoughts, quotes, scriptures, and worship songs here.

Coffee or Photography Shoot?

Denver is my favourite travel destination from Albuquerque for multiple reasons: it’s home, it’s only 6 hours away, and it has great coffee shops. For the first Sunday post I want to share some of my favourite places with you.

Healing Process

I don’t think tattoos need an explanation or justification. But I do think the stories and heart behind them are so important, and I’m sharing that here:

How To Do Vegas

Sitting in bed on the last day of the most incredible birthday celebration, trying to make sense of the last 48 hours. And to think I still have one whole day left to celebrate with my family. But for now: reflections from the adventures of my best friends and I in Las Vegas.   Continue reading “How To Do Vegas”
